The O Zone Center

is a low-waste, sustainability center in Red Hook, NY

Inside I found  fresh flowers drying for projects, an art corner, a reading area, sustainable kitchen supplies, children's toys, make up, low cost containers of all sizes and shapes, and so many bulk supplies--everything from cleaners, powdered laundry detergent, to speciality items so you can make your own beauty projects. Beginner DIY recipes are posted. Many bulk items are unscented, and essential oils can be added at the checkout counter.

Amelia, the owner, is kind, humble, and passionate about sustainability and health. A lot of love & hard work that has gone into this space, and the most magical part is how inclusive it is for everyone in our community and beyond.

There's something for everyone!

The Clothing Swap

is what brought me to Red Hook.

Although the O Zone center has been on my radar for a while, it's hard to justify a trip across the river just for fun.

Clothing swaps are anti-capitalist events where you can bring clothes that no longer serve you, and can go through and pick out clothes that you're excited to bring home.

They're a great way to recycle clothes within your community, and to get clothes without needing to spend money.

Germantown Laundromat

was there with a little mending station for loved but worn clothing.

Just a little north in Colombia County, the Germantown Laundromat is a community sustainability store, focused around clothing.

Go there for laundry services-you bet all the cleaners are sustainable!, mending, or purchasing items for your home to live a cleaner, more sustainable lifestyle.

We will absolutely be back to the O Zone Center.

Next time with our own containers and bottles to stock up on bulk household goods.

We highly recommend it for anyone looking to live more sustainably.
